The Holy Season of Lent2014

By Rev Adam Nyawo

Dear Friends,

The Holy season of Lent has just begun, 5th March, with the Ash Wednesday. This is a call for all of us to take his journey of solemnity by carefully observing the call to repentance, to receive the assurance of forgiveness proclaimed in the scriptures and to grow in faith and in our commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ. We are invited to observe this holy season of lent, by reflective prayer and the reading of scriptures, by self denial and repentance.

The observing of lent is entirely voluntary, but I hope you will make the space and time to be a part of his solemn journey in the Church's calendar. During Lent, we are encouraged to bury our 'Alleluas' and to consciously conform to Christ's suffering and death. Then on 'Resurrection Sunday', we will raise again our 'Alleluas' in celebration of the victory Christ has won.

Lent is considered a sombre season, but it is a great opportunity to follow and to immerse ourselves in the Passion Narrative.

Readings: (Psalm 51; Isaiah 58:1-11; Luke 17:1-10)

Prayer:
May we truly live lives of repentance;
And may almighty God have mercy on us,
Forgive us our sins,
And keep us in life eternal.
Amen

Reflections on Prayer and Fast 2014

By Rev Adam Nyawo

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 10

Breakthrough in Your Life

It has been my great joy and humility to minister unto you through the 10 days reflection of prayer and fasting. Today you need to put your trust in the Almighty and thank Him for answering your prayers. Then, you can pick the confidence to walk with your head high in 2014 as a child of God (John 1:12). Yes, you can claim your break through and your victory from your Father.
Listen, as the Lord lives, you will know the joy of victory this year.
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and their righteousness is of me, says the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17
“You will be blessed as you come in and as you go out…” Deut. 28:6
“For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…” Philippians 4:13
It is my prayer that the Lord will unlock all the blocked avenues and break all the chains in your life that hinder you from moving on in your life.

Prayer points:

Pray that the Father takes over your battles as you cover yourself with the blood of Jesus.

“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicle 20:15

Pray that every wicked power that fought your parents, and is now fighting you – die.

Pray for a complete destruction of the Goliath that killed your late fore fathers & mothers, before he goes on to kill you.

Pray for the disempowerment of idol power, assigned to naked your life.

Friend, may the good hand of the Lord be mighty upon your life- in business, career, finances, education, family and all round this year and for ever. I pray that this year shall be your year of ALL ROUND VICTORY, in the name of the Trinity; God our Father, His Beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, Amen and Amen!

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 9

Natural Disasters

Pray for those who have lost their loved ones and have lost homes due to floods, earth quakes, volcanoes. Don’t forget victims of famine.
We also pray for those involved in fatal accidents at work, travelling or in their places of residence. Those who die in accidents or natural disasters are not necessarily greater sinners than those who survive (Luke 13:1-5), Natural disasters or accidents should humble us, helping us to see our dependence on God to sustain and deliver us.
Before the throne of Grace and Mercy, let us pray for the victims of disasters together with their families.
“Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with lapis lazuli.” Isaiah 54:11
“When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.” Mark 13:7-9
Let us not forget to thank God in prayer for those who provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief during such tragedies. God bless.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 8

Justice and Good Governance

Pray for nations in conflict/war as well as those experiencing economic challenges. Pray for the victims of injustice and war- men, children and women who have been displaced from their homes and suffering as refugees in foreign lands. Isaiah 58:6-8; Ask for the peace of the Lord that surpasses all understanding to reconcile the world. Isaiah 2:4
God is sovereign over all human institutions. Hence, the first principle of leadership is that governments should operate in conformity with heavenly law. Leadership is not only a public trust but a sacred trust. Leaders should be imbued with spiritual values, fear God, and govern their people in a way that is acceptable to him.
Among the requisite qualities of a leader is righteousness. Righteousness is defined as dedication to the public welfare regardless of the cost to one’s self. A righteous leader has integrity. He does not seek to profit from his office, and he never uses public resources for his own benefit.
“When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God, He dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth upon a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.” 2 Samuel 23:3-4
Let us all pray for restoration of peace in all nations where there is no peace, restoration of dignity and integrity in the leaders and citizens who have lost it, yes our God is Able…
“He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4.
Remain blessed.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 7

Conversion

Prayer point: Let us bring before God in prayer, our non-believing families, friends and the world to God, so that they can know and accept the Lord into their lives.
Jesus desires that you know more profoundly the love that burns in His heart for souls. Let us call upon His Mercy on behalf of those trapped in sin, lost souls. Jesus desires their salvation.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38
God longs for souls - He longs for the conversion of sinners...

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

No matter how great the sin, God's Mercy is ALWAYS greater...

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18.

Today is the day of salvation for all those who receive the Son of God as Saviour.

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

By praying for lost souls, especially for sinners or those who will die unprepared, you will be participating in the redemption of mankind and saving souls which are very precious to Jesus. God bless you.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 6

Health and Healing

Pray for all people near and afar (homes/hospitals) suffering from various diseases that they experience God’s healing power. Claim your healing and deliverance in Jesus’ name. 1 Peter 2:24; Luke 4:40
As you are trusting the Lord for healing today, it is so important for you to know that God wants you healed and well. My Bible tells me clearly that God is a God of love and that He is a good God (1 Chronicles 16:34; 1 John 4:16).

This means that if you are sick, God’s heart is and will always be to heal and restore health and life to you. God does not want your body and life sapped, incapacitated or debilitated by pain, sickness and disease, and He will never withhold healing from you.

How important is your healing and health to the Lord? So important that He Himself paid the heaviest and most terrible price for your wholeness! At the cross, Jesus paid the full price for your healing, health and wholeness so you could experience His abundant life. Today, there is no symptom in your body that is too insignificant for Him to care about, and no condition that is greater than what His finished work has accomplished.
God Wants You Healed and Whole
“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord,
‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’ Jer 30:17
“…I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:26
God’s words are life to us and health to all our flesh Prov. 4:22
Dear friend, can you trust God for your health? Yes, you can- receive your healing today, in Jesus Christ’s name, amen!

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 5  Immigration Matters

Overcoming immigration problems!

Please pray for those who are in difficult situations with immigration. Those applying for visas/permit to study, work or stay-wherever they are to have a breakthrough in Jesus’ name. Ask God to show the authorities and the rulers of this world that the world and its fullness are His and also He is in control. Luke 13:29.
“This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.” Zech 7:9-10
“You are to allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the foreigners residing among you and who have children. You are to consider them as native-born Israelites; along with you they are to be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.” Ezek. 47:22

“Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. Do not be afraid…” Josh. 1:3,9

Prayer Points:
Pray for the immigration doors and gates to be open. Any evil powers preventing you from attaining your visa/ residence permit to die in Jesus´ name!
Pray that the locust Powers devouring your documents release you and die in Jesus´ name! Pray that the evil cage that has caged your papers, break in Jesus´ name! May all the ways to your visa/ residence permit that have been shut be open by fire, in Jesus´ name!
The Lord we serve is a great God and He answers by fire, like He did at Mount Carmel, friend take a bold step of faith as you claim your portion from the father’s house through your prayer and fast. God bless.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 4

Family finances and wisdom to handle it in a godly way…

The Power of Praying for our Finances

Debt. Unpaid bills. Not enough money to give or save. Unemployed? If you're struggling with financial problems, you may feel overwhelmed. Maybe you've prayed for God's help, but haven't yet experienced solutions.

The needs of our family have been very significant, but God has always been very faithful to meet our needs. We have learned, prayerfully, to trust God’s word about His unlimited Grace and we can testify of His faithfulness as we daily celebrate His abundant provisions. For “God’s word is Alive and Active” (Heb 4:12).

Adding fasting to your prayers can bring about breakthroughs in even the toughest situations. As you fast, God can change your perspective to more clearly reveal His plan for your finances.

“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

“The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.” (Proverbs 10:22)
Pray to overcome the love for materialism, (Matt. 6:33) and remember always to…
“ Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine”. (Proverbs 3:9-10)
A prayer for employment:
Dear lord, I turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance as I look for suitable employment so that I may care for my own as well as you have cared for me. I need your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the right path, and to lead me to find the proper things to say and do in this quest.
Lord, you are a loving Father and generous to your children. You bless and inspire the world with your good work. Thank you Lord, for your loving guidance today. In Christ Jesus your Son, Amen!

Friend, I pray that this insight will be a blessing to you.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 3

Families and Marriages

Prayer point: Please pray for families that are separated (working/studying in the diaspora, abroad) for God’s protection and for possibilities of family re-unions for those looking forward to. (Joshua 24:15; Proverbs 11:29; 12:7) Pray for strong and healthy marriages (Hebrews 13:4)
There is an immense onslaught on family life. There has probably never been a time in history when marriage and family life have been under such strain. Purposeful, systematic, intelligent and persevering prayer is necessary in this area.
Prayer at the family altar
It is important that every family pray together. Husband and wife should pray together regularly, but there should be a certain time each day when the whole family prays together and studies the Bible.
Pray for an open relationship and good communication in the marriage and pray against the spirit of divorce, lust and impurity.
Pray for deep conviction of sin and that the husband and wife will walk in the light of
God together.
Pray for understanding of each other's needs and the ability and willingness to meet
those needs.
Pray against every form of selfishness, self-indulgence and wilfulness in the marriage. Pray for the parents in their raising and handling of their children.
Pray for forgiveness, that marriage partners will forget the past and forgive one another for what happened in the past.
Pray for widowers, widows and couples who are unable to have children, and also for
children without parents and children in orphanages. Pray for the single and lonely
people who long for the security of a family.
Pray for children who have run away from home, and for children whose friends have a bad influence on them. While they're young, begin to pray for the right choice of career and marriage partners.
Pray that they will love God and His Word, and also pray for their joy in life.
Pray that they will choose the right friends. Prayer changes everything, let us all come together and ask for God’s mercy on our families.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 2

The Body of Christ (Church)

Prayer point: Pray for the church world-wide, the ordained and the laity, preachers, leaders and members to be guided by the spirit of truth and to live by the power of the Gospel; to preach only the truth and to lead exemplary lives. (Matthew 5:13; 1 Peter 2:1-3)
Praying for your church is like filling a balloon with helium, themore it is filled, the more it will soar and not sore! For us to grow not just numerically, but in what is much more important, spiritually and in community to one another, requires our discipline and passion to pursue Christ more and ourselves less. We have to grow in Christ in a cherished, intimate growing relationship with Him as LORD over all and LORD over us. We are called to become purpose driven with His purpose at our helm of leadership and lives so that our trust and intimacy is rooted in Him and not in our personal ideas or distractions (1 Chron. 16:11; Col. 2:6-8).
Pray that your Church, Leadership and Pastoral Staff becomes more surrendered and poured out to Christ, so they can have spiritual breakthroughs by seeking the fear of God and the mind of Christ and the Spirit’s leading (Gal. 2:20-21).

Pray that your church be a community of grace and forgiveness. That your church has an atmosphere of encouragement by being grateful for Christ’s work in them that enables the congregation to be inspired to give genuine hospitality to all who come through your doors (Rom. 15:4-6).
Pray that your church commits to place focus on the Supremacy of Christ and be dependent upon Him (Gal.6:14)
Pray that the Word of God will never be compromised, cheapened or dumped down; rather be delivered in confidence with power, conviction, clarity, boldness, with love and in truth (Acts 6:4; 2 Tim. 2:15).
Are things not going on well in your church? Do you desire to fire your pastor? Perhaps you should fire them up instead! Do you want to leave your church? Perhaps you should be the one to build it up! My friend gossip, negative criticism, false expectations will not resolve anything, you need to get into praying. It is God’s call for all of us to Pray for our Church and the leaders. God bless.

A Reflection on Prayer and Fast: Day 1

Prayer for spiritual direction…Jer 29:11-13

God has a plan for your life. He loves you and is not mad at you. He knows your strength and your weakness and will fill in were you fall short.
God is the kind of leader that will never leave us. He will always be with us. He will carry us when we cannot walk. When we are down, it will be Him that will reach down with his loving hand and pick us up, dust off our clothes then send us back to try again.

He knows the future, and his plans for us are good and full of hope. This does not mean that we will be spared pain, suffering, or hardship… God never promised us that; as a matter of fact, He tells us that there will be many trials and temptations in our lives.
Yes, there are battles awaiting you in 2014 but God’s promise is that He will never leave you nor forsake you. That he will not let you go through these trials alone but will be right there with you.
God does need you to make Him a priority in your life. He needs you to call upon His name; pray in faith and obedience. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

“For I know the plans I have for you… Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11) Isn’t that awesome, that God wants you to have peace in your life, He wants you to prosper and give you hope. I pray that you will trust God for every aspect in your life by allowing the Holy Spirit to be your guide in 2014 and beyond. God bless.
